Don Dolan & Kevin Kilb in Greater Tuna

September 20, 2017

Greater Tuna to open the 43rd Season at the Ghent Playhouse

Greater Tuna, written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard will open at the Ghent Playhouse October 6 and run 3 weeks through October 22, 2017. This production will be directed by Brian Wagner who appeared in last year’s season opener, The 39 Steps.  Brian chose to direct this gem because “… it’s a laugh a minute riot that will send audiences out into the chilly evening with a smile on their face.”  This popular show has become one of the most produced plays in American theatre history. After you’ve laughed til your sides split, you’ll understand why.

In this hilarious sendup of small town morals and mores, two actors portray over 20 characters – men, women, children and animals - all wacky citizens of Tuna, Texas’ third smallest town.  This daunting task has been taken on by two Ghent Playhouse veterans who both hail from Hudson.  You know Don Dolan from his dramatic appearance in The Weir and his comical appearance as King Sextimus in Once Upon a Mattress.  Kevin Kilb, who opened last season in The 39 Steps and closed it with his portrayal of Austin in True West, returns to open the current season.

Costumes are delightfully designed by Joanne Maurer and set design is by the Playhouse’s own Sam Reilly.  Assistant Director is Emily Spateholts, Lighting Designer Isabel Filkins and sound by Monk Schane-Lydon

Tickets are $22 each, $17 for Members of the Playhouse and $10 for Students with ID.  Tickets may be reserved by calling 1-800-838-3006 or going to the website at

Be sure to reserve your tickets early, especially for the Sunday matinees!

The Ghent Playhouse received a 2016 Readers’ Choice Award as Best Community Theatre in Eastern NY from the NY Theatre Guide!
