The Ghent Playhouse presents Once Upon a Mattress –
A musical comedy for the entire family.
Once Upon a Mattress opens on Friday, January 20 and runs through Sunday, February 5 with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m.
What do you get when you mix one pea, 20 mattresses and a Princess-to-be named “Fred?” You get one hilarious musical love story, based on the popular fairytale, “The Princess and the Pea.” Join Queen Aggravain (played by Cathy Lee-Visscher, Playhouse Artistic Director and on-stage favorite) and King Sextimus the Silent (you will remember Don Dolan from last season’s The Weir) as they rule a small medieval kingdom in 15th Century Europe. Other Playhouse regulars, Sam Reilly as Prince Dauntless and Michael Meier as Sir Harry were last seen on stage in this season’s Panto. Arielle Lant who usually is behind the scenes stage managing or assistant directing takes the stage as Lady Lucille and Joseph Sicotte (Seymour in last season’s Little Shop of Horrors) assumes the role of the Jester. Erin Harwood, Robyn Brahm, Megan Moran, Dylan Widjiono, Adrian Alcala, Andy Johnston, Charlotte Hayes, Micaela Conte & Maeve Nielson help round out the cast.
Book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller and Marshall Louis Barer; Music by Mary Rodgers; Lyrics by Marshall Louis Barer; Directed by Terri Conte; Sara Conte Stage Manager, Music Director Justine Rodriquez; Costumes by Joanne Mauer; Set Design by Sam Reilly and Produced by Kelly Mackerer.
